Quick One...

Today is just a quick recap of college football this weekend. I promise better things this week. I've got a couple in the queue that are NOT SPORTS-RELATED!!!

Too Early

My alarm went off at 3:15 this morning. I mean--yeah--I'm an early-riser...but that is a whole different level of pain.

Added to the wonderment of the early wake up call was the 11:57 unplanned wake up call when my roommate decided that filling the dryer with bricks, marbles and the Liberty Bell would be a good idea. Thanks man.

Intelligence

I was behind a man in the security line this morning that had clearly travelled before. You can spot these people via their luggage, their habits and the general air about them. There is a weird sort of "Shouldn't there be a line for people who deal with this s$#@ every day?" attitude--and yet they are completely devoid of the trepidation that most of the people in a long security line feel, helpless and panicked about missing their upcoming flight...

But then he pulled out his quart-sized Ziploc bag. Contained in it were two bottles that were probably closer to 30 oz. than 3.

When the inevitable, "Sir, we're going to have to test the fluids in your bag" statement came from TSA (after 15 minutes and three opinions on the matter) he responded, "Yeah--they always need to be checked."

Hmm. Maybe you try a smaller bottle next time??

Puzzling...

My parents were in town this weekend and brought me a purple and gold UW shirt that reads, "WWJD".

I can't decide whether it means "What Would Locker Do?" or "Willingham Will Lose Definitely."

Time will tell...

Didn't See That One Coming...

I'm not 100% certain that I got a single pick right on Friday...but that's not of issue...the game that I didn't pick--Stanford v. USC--was the one that brought all of the attention to college football.

Three reasons why it happened.

1. No urgency: I admittedly only saw the first quarter of this game, but USC came out looking like a team with nothing to prove. (Pretty much the same way that they've looked for every game but Nebraska.)

2. An inspired coach: When Jim Harbaugh came out at the beginning of the season with comments knocking USC, he was pretty much telling the world, "I'm focused on one game this year--and it isn't Oregon State." Well--clearly it worked. They could lose the rest of their games this season and double their season-ticket sales because their alumni absolutely believes in their new coach as of Sunday morning.

3. A Troubled Quarterback: John David Booty has absolutely shrunk in the face of Heisman-hype. He was great last season without pressure--but the spotlight of being number one in the country and being one of the main candidates for the Heisman has been to much for him.
But there was another guy who followed a National Championship winner at one of the country's elite programs, who had paltry numbers his senior season despite being a phenomenally accurate passer--and he slipped all the way to the second day of the draft. Do you know where that guy is today?

He's in jail, he's Mexican.

Kidding--he's quarterbacking a New England Patriots team that Bob Costas would trust to take on China's nuclear arsenal at this point--his name is Tom Brady.

Does this mean the end for the Trojans? Not necessarily. They can still make it to the National Championship Game, but they need a few things to happen.

1. They need to win out (namely knocking off ASU, Oregon and especially Cal.)
2. They need Cal to be undefeated on November 10 when USC plays them.

3. They need EVERY team to have a loss. If a single team (including South Florida, Missouri or Cincinnati's) goes undefeated, USC doesn't make the title game because they can't possibly be considered the best one-loss team when that loss is to Stanford.

McFly's Updated Top Ten.

Screw it...

McFly's Updated Top 25:

1. LSU

2. Cal

3. South Florida

4. Ohio State (Actually looked pretty good this weekend. But I'm still picking Michigan to win the Big Ten.)

5. Oklahoma

6. BC (Watch out for them--they could easily run the table. Can't wait for that BC-South Florida National Title game. No question they have the two best chances of running the table.)

7. Oregon

8. USC

9. West Virginia

10. Missouri

11. Arizona State

12. South Carolina

13. Florida

14. Cincinnati

15. Illinois

16. Virginia Tech

17. Hawaii

18. Kansas

19. Kentucky

20. Florida State

21. Wisconsin

22. Georgia

23. Tennessee

24. Auburn

25. Michigan (Find me 25 teams more deserving than Michigan. NOBODY looks great right now...)
